The Eastern Shore of Virginia offers so much for all ages. Volunteer with The Nature Conservancy by counting the migratory birds, planting seeds to maintain our oyster beds, over 100 nature trails to explore and so much more. If water is your passion there are numerous public boat ramps on bayside and seaside to launch for a day of fun and fishing either on the Chesapeake Bay or the Atlantic Ocean; most likely meeting the quota for the day. A more relaxed atmosphere would be kayaking or canoeing from many of the tributaries. Attend lectures to learn more about the rich heritage we call home; such as why many of our towns have such interesting names. Kiptopeke State Park offers camping, trails, pier and of course a beach; fun for all. Head to Assateague Island, another federal reserve, and perhaps you will encounter one of the famous ponies, some a descendant of Misty. See rocket launches from NASA/Wallops Island Flight Facility at designated areas.  Historic Cape Charles and Onancock offer fine and casual dining, theaters and playhouses as well as eclectic shops. Become a member at the Eastern Shore Yacht & Country Club in Melfa, VA; enjoy the two Signature Golf Courses; Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus in Cape Charles, VA or the Captain’s Cove Golf Course in Greenbackville, VA.  Campgrounds are located in both counties which many locals spend their vacation time as well as enjoying the annual Volunteer Fireman’s Carnivals in Wachapreague and Chincoteague. Freshly caught local seafood is offered at many local dining establishments. Stop at one of the local produce stands and enjoy locally grown, some organic, fruits and vegetables or visit the local seasonal Farmer’s Markets.
